Tallaght Young Filmmakers member Wiktoria Weintritt wins Best Director at First Cut Film Festival.
Following on from the successes of How Not to be Being Bad With Your Monies and Quick Cut Wiktorias psychological short has won her the Best Director Award. Wiktoria Weintritt who wrote and directed the short film Brainboxed won best director at the First Cut Film Festival which took place in Youghal.
About making the film Wiktoria said "Brainboxed is my first short film and a project that has been in my head for a long time. I finally got around doing it and with the help of friends on set we were able to make it into one piece. I learnt a lot from it."
First Cut had this comment to make about the film
"A subtle and delicate personal drama handled with extraordinary control, finesse and understatement. The quiet assurance of Wiktoria Weintritt’s directing was one of the most outstanding surprises of the 2020 open call submissions."
Brainboxed is a short about loss. After the loss of her sister, Ruby can't gather herself up. She finds out a shocking truth about her best friend Kal.
When Wiktoria found out she’d won best director she commented
"I’m very delighted but also surprised I have won the award. When making the film I just kept thinking of something I want to make and I want to share with others. To see that it was well received by the audience and that it got rewarded makes me beyond happy."
Brainboxed was written and directed by Wiktoria under the guidance of Tallaght Young Filmmakers. The group provided support, equipment and crew to Wiktoria throughout all parts of the filmmaking process.
